“But now, thus says the Lord, your Creator, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine! ” (Isaiah 43:1, NASB95)
“…Thus says the Lord, your Creator…” When God speaks to us, He is not begging us to abstractly believe that He is God and therefore listen to Him. He claims to be our Creator. He has rights and privileges to who and what we are because He made us. Stop for a minute and realize that you would not be here today if it weren’t for God’s creating you. The heart that right now is beating within your chest and the lungs that automatically take air in and out are doing their work because your Creator/God loves and sustains you. You are an amazing piece of work. There is not another like you in all the universe. God has made you uniquely special and beautiful. Even in your brokenness, God seeks to heal and restore.
So He says, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!” I don’t know if there are any more comforting words in the Scriptures than these. Our God and Creator is telling us, as sinful and broken people, not to fear or worry because His love for us has overcome all that separates us. He has redeemed (bought us back) from Satan and the sinful world we live in. He bought us with the precious blood of His Son which was shed upon the cross. It was the eternal price that God was willing to pay to eliminate the eternal debt of our sin. He calls us by name and makes us His children. I love the words, “…you are Mine!” I am so glad to be considered His. We are the prodigal sons who the Father brought back and restored into the family. God loves us so much that He claims us to be His own.
Be comforted today that the Creator God of the universe loves you so much that He specifically created, redeemed, and called you to be His own. Hear Him say one more time, “…you are Mine!”
Peace!
