“Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O Lord. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.” (Habakkuk 3:2, NIV)
Look back at history. The Lord has done amazing and mighty things on behalf of His people and for the fulfilling of His plan of redemption. He has caused enemies more numerous to lose in battle. He has caused the day to be extended so that His people could finish their task. He caused plagues to fall upon the most powerful nation at that time until they released their Hebrew slaves. The Lord has raised up powerful leaders throughout history who have led His people in righteous ways. He caused a virgin to be with child, and through her He brought the Savior of the world into being. Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, the Lord won victory over sin and death for all of us.
But what about today? Is He just as active? Habakkuk says in the verse above, “Renew them in our day.” Habakkuk confidently pleads for the Lord to continue to do what He has always done, which is to act on behalf of His people. And the Lord does. The Lord cannot deny Himself. He loves us with a passion that causes Him to move Heaven and Earth on our behalf. Even today, the Lord continues to mightily heal, touch, save, redeem, strengthen, protect, etc. This is not something we have to wish for. It is something we can expect from a loving and faithful God.
Peace!
