02/27/22 Daily Devotion – Let God’s Word guide you!

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” — Psalm 119:105 (NIV)

We finally come to the most well-known verse in the longest psalm and chapter in the Bible. This verse unifies everything that the psalmist is saying about God’s Word in this psalm. Every day we take steps. We walk here and there to do our business and such. Have you ever felt uncertain about the next step? Have you ever stood at the proverbial fork in the road, uncertain which direction to take? I think we all have.

What if we could step into those situations with much more clarity and certainty? This is exactly what the psalmist is trying to get us to see in this verse. He tells us that God’s Word can, and needs to be, a lamp to our feet and a light for our path. God’s Word can provide the necessary light to guide us in the direction we should go. This entire practice was lived out in the 40 years the Israelites wandered in the desert. They did not move until God (a cloud of smoke by day and a fire by night) moved before them. It was also lived out in the life of the disciples, who were called to follow Jesus (who is the Word of God).

Give it a shot! Test the Lord in this and see whether He doesn’t do exactly what is promised here. Every morning start in God’s Word and prayer. Then see whether the direction of your daily steps has more clarity.

Peace!
