03/13/22 Daily Devotion – ‘Truth in the inner parts’ — What does that mean?

“Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place.” — Psalm 51:6 (NIV)

What does it mean to have truth in “the inner parts” and “in the inmost being”? The psalmist says this is something that God desires of us. How long have you known that 2+2=4? Obviously since you were very young. This is a fact that helps us work within the logic of basic math. We use this principle every day. But how meaningful is it to us? We barely recognize that the truth is there. How often are we guilty of doing the same thing with God’s truths? Too quickly they become buried in the recesses of our minds with other bits of information we have stored from our past.

The truths provided in the Word of God were never meant to become arbitrary facts. They are meant to be active living principles that guide and direct our lives in a very proactive way. These truths have the power to transform our lives. As God’s truths transform our “inner parts,” they begin to transform the outward expression of our lives. Like a butterfly is transformed from the inside out, we too go through a similar process when we allow God’s Word to reach deep into our hearts and souls.

May God’s truths be central to what goes on in both our hearts and our lives.

Peace!
