08/25/23 Daily Devotion – Watch those stumbling blocks!

“We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our ministry will not be discredited.” (2 Corinthians 6:3 NIV84)

There is a bit of Paul that needs to rub off on all of us in ministry today. We seem to be driven by events, special-interest ministries and budgets. In the spirit of true discipleship, we place before our members requirements for belonging. It’s only a matter of time before we have our members concentrating on so many things that those very things become a stumbling block in the way of the Gospel.

Paul was always conscious of the fact that the enemy (Satan) would love to get us side-tracked and tripping over things that stand in the way of the Gospel. We spend much time in God’s Word and prayer and exert much energy in our ministries to make sure this does not happen. And I would say this is true not only for churches but for our Christian lives as well. We have to make sure that nothing about our lives is a stumbling block to ourselves or to others around us. We must always offer, to ourselves and to others, God’s grace and mercy free and clear. We can’t let conditions, strings, plans or personal preferences get in the way of God’s grace.

Let’s work hard to recognize and remove the stumbling blocks that could be discrediting our ministries and our Christian witness.

Peace!
