06/23/19 Daily Devotion – Give me an undivided heart!

“Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.” — Psalm 86:11 (NIV)

There is something I have learned about myself over the years. It has caused me great pain and sorrow in my journey. It is that I do not always say, do, follow the path that I know is true. Too often I have had a divided heart. I know what I ought to do, but I do the opposite anyway. How about you? Can you relate to what I am saying? Just because we know the truth doesn’t mean we will live it. We live in a broken and sinful world, and we have a broken and sinful heart. Our hearts are divided and they struggle between knowing God’s truths and wanting to be free to follow its desires. But there is good news!

God has forgiven us for living our life with a divided heart. He sent Jesus into the world to bear our sins and redeem us. But there is more. His truthful Word is so powerful that it has the power to transform our hearts and minds. The Holy Spirit can, and will, work so powerfully in our lives that He will remove our hearts of stone and give us hearts of flesh. He will transform our hearts into His image.

This is what we seek from God when we come to Him in His Word. We want Him to continue to remind us that we are forgiven. We want Him to continue to repair and transform our divided hearts. We want His Word to teach and direct us so that we might walk in His truth. “Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.”

Peace!
