09/20/22 Daily Devotion – “For ____________ is impossible with God!

““How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God.” (Luke 1:34–37, NIV84)

It is important to note the difference between Zechariah’s and Mary’s questions. Zechariah asked the angel Gabriel, “How can I be sure of this?” He was looking for a sign. He wanted proof. The words of the angel were not enough. For Mary they were enough, but they didn’t make sense. Mary’s question was, “How will this be, since I am a virgin? Zechariah was married so he only needed the miracle of an open womb. But Mary had no husband. Her question was one of confusion, not doubt.

Gabriel didn’t mute her like he did Zechariah. No, he went on to tell her that the child she would bear would be conceived by the Holy Spirit. Gabriel shared with her welcoming spirit the details of the divine conception. He went on to tell her that her relative, Elizabeth, had experienced her own miracle and was now 6 months pregnant. How was all of this happening? By the hand of God. For you see, nothing is impossible with God.

So, what is that impossible thing that isn’t happening in your life? I mean that thing that you keep trying to make happen as though you can will it to be. Are you ready to let go of it and give it to God? You need to give it to the only source of power in existence that for Whom nothing is impossible. Although contrary to science, logic, and reason, we will learn that Mary took Gabriel at his word and trusted that God could do anything.

Today, let’s do the same.

Peace!
