09/29/23 Daily Devotion – How far is God willing to go?

“But if they do not believe these two signs or listen to you, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the river will become blood on the ground.” — Exodus 4:9 (NIV84)

How far is God willing to go to get us to see and understand Him? Have you ever pondered that question? Have you ever wondered how far He would go on your behalf? Well then, ponder the context of our verse for today. In verse 1 of Chapter 4, Moses asked God, “What do I do if the Israelites do not believe the message You sent me to tell them?” God performed two miraculous signs. First, He caused Moses’ staff to turn into a snake and then back into a staff again. Second, He turned Moses’ hand white with leprosy and then restored it like new. Finally, God told Moses, “But if they don’t believe these two signs or listen to you, take some of the water from the Nile and pour it out on the dry ground. The water you take from the river will become blood on the ground.” If you read the rest of the story, it is apparent that God had to perform all three of these signs in order to get His people to understand that He was about to save them.

So, how far has God gone to reach your life? How many signs has He performed to get you to see that He loves you? Are you paying attention to the things He is doing in your life? I think sometimes our sinful nature dulls our senses to the point that God sometimes needs to use a 2 x 4 to get us to see and understand what He is accomplishing in our lives. But seriously, hasn’t He gone further than we could ever have imagined? God loves us so much that He sent His Son into the world as a human boy. Jesus grew up. He lived a perfect life. He taught the truth and healed the sick and the demon-possessed. He suffered and died on a cross, bearing our sins. He rose from the dead to prove that we have victory over death and the Devil. He has placed His Holy Spirit in our hearts so that we might have faith in Him. He provides us His Word and the fellowship of other Christians so that our faith might grow and flourish. On our last day on earth, He will send one of His angels to escort us to the thrones of Heaven to be with Him through all eternity.

That’s how far God will go!

Peace!
