“They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.” (Romans 1:25, NIV84)
The real issue about truth doesn’t lie in our intellectual ability. It is not like we can change everything if we just keep repeating truth claims over and over again. The real issue lies in our relationship with God. Paul is telling us in the verse above that our sinful nature desires to believe and worship that which is contrary to God. In doing so, we have to build a structure of rationalized truths to support our belief. These are the lies that Paul is saying we exchange for the truth. Since the fall of Adam and Eve, man’s inclination has been to exchange the truth of God for a lie and worship and serve created things over the Creator.
If we are going to change our society and the world around us, we have to reintroduce our society to its Creator. We need to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that the hearts and minds of our fellow man will turn back to God. Once the heart moves back to God and individuals worship and serve their Creator, then they will naturally accept the truths of God. Too often we Christians shout truths to a world that cannot understand them in its current condition. We need to change the heart condition first. We need to be like Philip, going to the skeptic Nathaniel and telling him that he needs to come and meet Jesus. We need to reintroduce witnessing and evangelism into our strategy. It only makes sense that we will not get people to understand the existence of absolute truths until we get them to believe in a God of absolute truths.
May God provide us more and more opportunities to share the Gospel with those we come into contact with. May we be agents who simply attempt to reintroduce our fellow man to his Creator.
Peace!
