10/9/23 Daily Devotion – ‘I love it when God starts using repetitive I’s!’

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: Because of my mighty hand he will let them go; because of my mighty hand he will drive them out of his country.” God also said to Moses, “I am the Lord. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the Lord I did not make myself known to them. I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, where they lived as aliens.  Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant. “Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord.’” — Exodus 6:1-8 (NIV84)

The children of Israel were doubting and questioning their faith in their deliverance because when Moses went to Pharaoh, things only got worse. Pharaoh’s oppressive treatment of the Israelites just grew. The Israelites questioned and doubted God’s plan. They went to Moses complaining about the circumstances they were in. Moses took those concerns to the Lord in prayer, and our verses for today are God’s response. Look at all the “I’s.” Seriously, read verses 1-8 again and count all the “I’s.” I love it when God is on a roll like that. He was assertively reminding the Israelites of who He is and why no one, not even Pharaoh, can resist or detour His plan.

We need that kind of reminder sometimes, don’t we?! We need to be reminded in the middle of our trials, pains, suffering, and confusion that God is not only God, but He is OUR God. Look how He reminded Moses that He is their Lord, and that He is the God of their forefathers (Abraham, Isaac and Jacob). The Lord reminded them, and reminds us in His word, that He has made promises to His people that will be fulfilled. They cannot be thwarted by any power on this planet. He assured them, as He does us, that we can be certain of our salvation and our deliverance because of who He is, what He has done, and what He has promised to do. God promised to Moses that, with a mighty hand, He would destroy the Egyptians and set the Israelites free. Has He not done the same for us in Jesus Christ? Has He not crushed the Devil’s head? Has He not conquered death itself? Yes, He has! Because of who He is!

I love it when God is on a roll of “I’s”!!!!

Peace!
