“But say the word, and my servant will be healed.” (Luke 7:7, NIV84)
These are the words of a Roman centurion to Jesus as Jesus made His way to the centurion’s home to heal the man’s servant. The centurion told Jesus that he was unworthy of Jesus coming to his house and that all Jesus had to do was “say the word” and his servant would be healed. At the end of this encounter Jesus told the entire crowd that He had not seen so deep a faith in all of Israel. The people of God were less likely to trust Jesus as Lord as was this Roman soldier.
So once again, God challenges us through His Word with regard to our faith lives. Are we the type who constantly want God to prove Himself with signs and wonders? Or, are we willing to take Him at His Word and believe and accept what He says because it is He who says so? Fellow Christians, we have the inspired Word of God at our very fingertips. We can go back to Genesis and learn about our origin, we can read the rest of the Old Testament and see how God loves and disciplines His people. We can read the Gospels and see how God sent His Son into the world to redeem and to save us. We can read the epistles and see how the Holy Spirit birthed a Church. We can read the book of Revelation and know for certain that we are victorious in the end. Our God provided all of that truth for us so that we might learn to trust His Word.
Let’s let go of doubt and uncertainty! Let’s be certain that if God says it, it will be done!
Peace!
