11/22/2023 Daily Devotion – They heard the voice of God!

“The Lord said to Moses, ‘I am going to come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people will hear me speaking with you and will always put their trust in you.’ Then Moses told the Lord what the people had said.” — Exodus 19:9 (NIV84)

It was Moses who heard God speaking from the burning bush. It was Moses to whom God spoke during the time of the plagues in Egypt. Moses was always the one God spoke to as the Israelites traveled and grumbled their way through the desert. But not today! Today, the children of Israel had made it to Mt. Sinai themselves. They were now in the same place Moses was when he first heard the Lord’s voice. And now, God intended to speak to all the people. They would all hear His voice. What am amazing moment in their history, and what an amazingly significant event this was for every Israelite alive at that time. All would hear Him; no one would be exempt. Why was it so important? So they would put their trust in Him and in Moses, their God-appointed leader.

But if you think that’s something, what about the fact that the very Word of God, the God the Israelites heard at Mt. Sinai, became flesh to redeem and save us? That baby Jesus we honor and celebrate every Christmas season is God incarnate. We have not only heard the Word of God, we have seen Him. He lived, taught, touched and redeemed. He died and rose again so that we might be saved. The Word of God became man so that we might know and understand the extent of God’s love. We have been blessed to not only hear the Word of God but to see Him and experience His love.

Peace!
