“This man was handed over to you by God’s set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.” (Acts 2:23–24, NIV84)
God has a set purpose! He’s got a plan! Through all the craziness we live through, He is working out His will. He is doing that in the broad sense, as He works His will throughout the universe. He also is doing that in the narrow sense, as He works His will in and through the lives of His children (you and me). Our verses for today are from Peter’s sermon on the day of Pentecost. Note how he describes everything that happened to Jesus as part of God’s plan of salvation.
We should draw comfort from these verses today. They prove that God can make all things work for the good. Jesus obediently went the way of the cross. He chose to do the Father’s will and was rewarded by being raised from the dead by that same Father. God destroyed the power of death and the Devil on Good Friday and Easter morning. In the garden, Jesus chose the Father’s will over His own. How about you and me? Whose will are we choosing? I pray that our prayer is the same as that of Jesus. We need to surrender our will for His. We need to trust that He has a set purpose that is for our good and for His glory.
Peace!
