“A voice says, ‘Call out.’ Then he answered, ‘What shall I call out?’ All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades, When the breath of the Lord blows upon it; Surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.” — Isaiah 40:6–8 (NASB95)
“What shall I call out?” Lord, what is it that you want me to say? When it is all said and done, what do you want them to know? It is questions like these that move me to write these daily devotions. I write them for myself as much as I write them for you. So, what does God want us to know?
There is more to this life than living and dying! There is more to life than getting a job, getting married and having children. There is more! There has to be more, because this life ends. God doesn’t want it to end with the short life we live on this planet. He created and designed us to be eternal beings. He wants to make sure that our lives are Firmly Rooted in eternal truths and not in temporary truths that will die away as all things in this world do.
So, God tells us that His Word is the source of all eternal truths, and they stand forever. These truths don’t fade away as generations fade one into another. God’s eternal truths are lasting. We need to be rooted in these truths so that when the things of this world pass away, we stand forever with God’s Word.
Look around. None of it is going to last. Let’s make sure that we spend time focusing on the things that last forever.
Peace!
