“For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.” — Colossians 1:19–20 (NIV)
The great theologians of the past were right — it always goes back to the cross. We are a cross-centric belief system. The entire Old Testament points to the cross, the Gospels point to the cross, and the letters of the New Testament point back to the cross for the reason for faith and Christian life. You see, at the cross God reconciled and made peace through the precious blood of Jesus shed there. All things, creation itself, is made right with God at the cross. It is there that all sins and their consequences were borne. Jesus, on the cross, took upon Himself the death and hell that we deserved. God is reconciled, and we have peace with Him through the cross.
Having been reconciled through the death of Jesus on the cross, we now have peace with God. We have been set free from the tyranny of sin and have been born again by the power of the Holy Spirit. We live in the shadow of the cross and in full vision of the empty tomb. Jesus rose from the dead victoriously to assure us that we, too, will not be touched by death but have everlasting life. We have the privilege to live out our Christian lives in peace and harmony with God because of His great love for us in Jesus Christ.
Be at peace today knowing that the blood of Jesus shed on the cross has made all things right with God.
Peace!
