“Look at the nations and watch— and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.” (Habakkuk 1:5, NIV)
Habakkuk has appealed to God’s sense of justice. He wonders why evil and injustice seem to prevail while the innocent and the righteous seem to suffer. What we have in the verse above is God’s reply. What should catch us immediately is the scope of God’s response. He doesn’t just assure Habakkuk that He will address the issues in the small part of Israel he lives in, but He tells Habakkuk to “look out at the nations and watch.” God is going to soon move entire nations at His beckoning in order to address the injustices in the land.
Right when we think that the situation we are in is a little too big for the Lord to handle, He peels the scales that are blinding us off of our eyes and allows us to see that He DOES have everything in control. And I mean everything. God moves nations according to His will. He causes them to rise and fall as He deals with evil and injustice and ministers to the persecuted innocent. We need to be assured that God sees and understands what we are going through. He is working His will in perfect timing to meet the needs of His children and to move His Kingdom forward.
Be comforted today that the Lord has your back. He has everything in control and is working His will not just in your life, but throughout the entire world.
Peace!
