11/06/2021 Daily Devotion – His gifts are yours to use, not bury!

“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.” (Matthew 25:14–15, NIV84)

This is one of the most straightforward parables about the kingdom of heaven. The Master (God) gives his servants (you and me) varying amounts of money and tells us to work the money for His kingdom. When the Master comes back (the last day), he requires an accounting. Two of the servants in the parable worked the money given to them by the Master and returned it with profit. The last servant dug up the money he had hidden in the ground and gave it back to the Master. He didn’t work the money. He did not provide the master with a profit. He went about living his life the way he wanted to live it and when the Master returned, that was all he had to give Him.

At times we tend to do the same thing as the third servant. We allow the world to convince us that this is our life to live. But it is just not true. We can live like that is true, but we will pay in the end. We did not choose to be born but were given life as a gift. We did not choose the talents we have but were given them as a gift. We do not choose the number of days we live on this earth, but the Lord of the kingdom of heaven does. He is the Master. He has blessed us with our life and talents and asks that we use both to do the work of His kingdom. We don’t have to worry about making sure there is a profit. He will take care of that. He will work through our lives and words to touch others and bring them to His kingdom. He will work the profit through our efforts. We just have to have the right perspective of our life and purpose.

Remind me again, whose is it? It’s all God’s! We are called to recognize that and to live like it is true!

Peace!
