“…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6, NIV84)
Most every single day, the most comforting thing for my personal walk with God is that I am not alone. I know for certain that it is not all up to me. If it were, I would be lost. God has been involved in my journey from the very beginning. I mean that literally. From the very beginning of time, God saw the predicament sin put man in. Although He abhors sin, He loves His children. For centuries He promised a Savior who would come and redeem us. Jesus finally did come. In His words and actions He revealed the love, mercy and grace that God the Father has for us. Jesus died on the cross and paid for the sins of all humanity. This saving work is based on His unconditional love for us and not on any good within us. Paul says in Romans 5:8, “God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Even after Jesus’ death and resurrection, God continued to work on our behalf by sending the Holy Spirit into the hearts and souls of every believer. You and I are believers in Jesus Christ not because we did anything but because God’s Spirit made us new when we were born again.
That same faithful God and powerful Holy Spirit promise to be with us every day of our life. God promises to meet us when we meditate upon His Word and when we call on His name in prayer. He will be with us through every tragedy and every milestone. Even on our last day on this earth, He will be with us to guide us home to be with Him in heaven. Like the Philippians, you can be certain that “He Who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.”
Peace!
