“Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them. The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. I open my mouth and pant, longing for your commands. Turn to me and have mercy on me, as you always do to those who love your name. Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.” — Psalm 119:129–133 (NIV)
If you “pant” for God’s Word He will unfold its truths and show you its light. He will give you a discerning heart to know and understand the depth of those truths and the depth of God’s love for you. Peter says in his first letter, “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation” (1 Peter 2:2 NIV). Go to the Word of God, not as a burden or a chore, but as infants who need that nourishment so they don’t die.
As you begin to discern the truths in God’s Word, God will take you deeper than you can imagine. He will begin to show you His very heart. He will reveal to you all the ways that He has guided and protected you along your journey. He will assure you that He will be with you no matter what happens. As you continue to devote yourself to His Word, He will overshadow you with His love, grace, hope, and protection.
Last, you will live a more victorious life over sin and the devil because God’s Word will be working in and for you. The light of God’s Word will direct you in paths that will keep you from evil. His Word will transform your heart and mind in ways that you cannot now fathom.
Join me, now, in dedicating ourselves to a humble pursuit of spiritual nourishment, discernment, direction, and protection as we drink deeply of God’s Word.
Peace!
Pastor Tom
