08/18/22 Daily Devotion – Christ alone can meet our needs!

“If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion…” (Philippians 2:1, NIV84)

Boy, has Paul hit a home run with this verse. He touches on the topics of encouragement, comfort, fellowship, tenderness and compassion. Read over those five words again. What do all five words have in common? They are vitally needed by our human spirit. Without them life would be unbearable. We need to be encouraged along the way. We need to be comforted when pain enters our lives. We need the fellowship of others to know that we are not in this alone. We need tenderness and compassion when we are in our most fragile state.

But there is a problem. We rarely get these vital expressions of empathy and care from the world we live in. We live in a dog-eat-dog world. At times it seems like one big game of king of the hill, with no one caring about who gets damaged in the battle. The only ones in this world to get these needs filled are Christians. And why Christians? Because Christians continually receive these expressions of encouragement, comfort, fellowship, tenderness, and compassion personally from Jesus. Our God, alone, is the one to whom we can go to experience these human spirit needs. He and He alone supplies us what our hearts and souls yearn for most.

So Christian, today, be thankful you have access to something the rest of the world is seeking. And find a way to share Jesus with one of those seekers.

Peace!
