“I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands.” — Psalm 119:176 (NIV)

This is our last devotion on Psalm 119. It has been an amazing journey for me. I hope it has been for you, too. We now look at the last verse of this amazing psalm. Is it any surprise that he ends with the most amazing admission to our sinfulness and brokenness? He speaks for all of us who desire to seek God’s face and to follow His decrees but still find ourselves “lost like sheep” because we have strayed from the way. He says to the Lord, “Seek your servant.” At the end of the day it is not about our Biblical expertise. It is not about finally perfecting the commands of God. It is only, and always, about a God who loves us even though we are broken. It is about a God who never grows weary of us as long as we are willing to fight the fight. It is about a God whose hand will go crashing into the water because we have asked to come out of the boat to be with Him and moments later we are sinking into the deep because we have lost our focus.

Our God is a God who seeks and saves the lost. He is a God who leaves the 99 in the fields so He can find you and me and bring us back into the fold. From the beginning of time, it has been about a God of grace who chose to save and redeem instead of curse and destroy. It is this God that we turn to during all phases of our lives. It is this God who will be there for us in the good and the bad. As we fight and scratch to live out this Christian life, remember it is not about us. It is about the most awesome God who promises to help us in the fight.
