03/14/22 Daily Devotion – Once we know truth, recognizing falsehood gets easier!

“You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth.” — Psalm 52:3 (NIV)

We are in a series of devotions discussing the topic of truth. We have established the necessity for the existence of truth. Without it there would only be chaos. We have laid a foundation from God’s Word that tells us that there are absolute truths, and that God communicates them to us through His Word. We have been reminded and encouraged that God’s grace, love, and mercy are ours because God is faithful and true to His promises.

Today we look at the flip side. There is the opposite of truth. That is falsehood. Jesus says of the Devil: “He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44). Our society tends to see truth and falsehood on a relativity spectrum. Today, most think that truth and falsehood (right and wrong) are relative ideas that can only be determined in the moment. They also think that right and wrong should be viewed as a spectrum, as opposed to polar opposites. Jesus is very clear that there is truth (Himself and His teachings), and there is falsehood (the Devil and any teaching that is contrary to God’s Word).

The point is; that this all matters. It matters very much how we view truth and falsehood, right and wrong. We need to view these concepts as absolutes and as polar opposites. We are called to flee from evil and go to good. We are called to live in the truths of God’s Word. We are called to follow Jesus, who is “the way and the truth and the life.” We are to proclaim God’s truths with our mouths and with our lives.

Peace!
