“The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.” — Proverbs 12:22 (NIV84)
The Lord detests lying lips because they are demonically directed, sinfully motivated and absolutely contrary and destructive to His truth. When talking about the Devil in John 8, Jesus said that the Devil was a murderer because of his lying nature. Lying isn’t a neutral thing. It is a deadly and destructive thing. It blinds the eyes of the liar as well as anyone he or she is lying to. Like an eclipse of the sun, lying blocks the light of God’s Word that might enlighten and save someone. For God, this is a very serious thing. Any person, teacher, or political leader who blocks the Word of God through lies and deception will be held accountable to God. God is trying to reach humanity with His love and grace and will not tolerate for long those who block His message. They are detestable to Him.
The good news is that the opposite is true. God delights in us when we honor and respect His Word. When we strive to be true to God’s Word in our words and actions, He recognizes our efforts and delights in them. How often have you stopped to consider that God delights in you? He knows it is not easy to live a Christian life in this world. He delights in our fighting the fight and running the race. No matter what pressure we may encounter in this world, it is our duty to stay true to the Word of God for our good and the good of those around us.
Today, may the Lord delight in our pursuit of His truth.
Peace!
