09/04/23 Daily Devotion – How we Christians keep our heads straight!

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV84)

Sometimes, most of the time, what goes on in our head is our greatest challenge. We live in an age of information-overload. Someone tell me whether having 24-hour news channels has truly made us more aware of what’s going on in our world today. With all the information that we can gather with one single Google search, have we become more knowledgeable? Do we have a better grasp of what the right thing to do is? Can we properly address the issues that plague our society? The answer is no for most of us. The overload of information has truly gotten us more confused and uncertain. Many in our society today have become convinced that there really is no solution. They are skeptical of anyone in authority who would claim to have an answer. They are lost.

But what about Christians? Paul says that we “take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ.” Jesus’ teachings are the benchmark for truth. We are to reject any fundamental teaching that doesn’t align with the teaching of the Word of God. We must always remember that there is such a thing as the knowledge of God. As Christians, we are to develop a discerning heart that is naturally guided by the wisdom of God’s Word. The only way to keep our minds straight is to keep our minds focused on wisdom, knowledge and the truth of God’s Word. By the way, don’t forget that the wisdom and knowledge of God have the ability to “demolish the arguments and every pretense that sets itself up against the knowledge of God.” Keeping our heads straight isn’t just for us. We need to keep our heads straight so that we might properly witness to others who are being duped by false teachings of this world. The truths we hold are more than just knowledge. They are powerful tools to help break through to the hearts and souls of others and win them to the kingdom of God.

Today, and every day, let’s keep our heads straight!

Peace!

Pastor Tom
