“But, ‘Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.’” (2 Corinthians 10:17 NIV84)
Seriously, I understand the importance of biblical humility. I understand the importance of avoiding boasting in ourselves. When we place ourselves in the forefront, the picture is quite unbecoming. But what about boasting in the Lord? When was the last time you let loose with someone about how great God is? You haven’t? Why? In my case it’s because I’m usually too focused on me, or I am weirded out about talking about God to someone. We can spend hours talking about a sporting event from yesterday, or the events of a popular television drama, but when it comes to God, we fall a bit short.
So, come on! Do some stretching if you have to and let loose. Boast in a God who loves you so much that He has called you by name; knows the number of hairs on your head; surrounds you with guardian angels; provides for your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being; has redeemed you through the life, death, and resurrection of His own Son (Jesus); fills you with the Holy Spirit; guides and empowers your life by that same Holy Spirit; promises to be with you in the good times and bad; promises to never leave you or forsake you; who, when you die or on the last day, will receive you into His eternal glory. Now that is something to boast about! Name one other god, person, organization, religious belief, or political institution that promises all that. Not one!
So, if we’re going to boast about anything, let’s boast about our great God!
Peace!
