09/27/23 Daily Devotion – God’s mighty hand!

“But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand compels him. So I will stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go.” — Exodus 3:19-20 (NIV84)

Isaiah 59:1 says, “God’s hand is not so short that it cannot save, nor is His ear so dull that He cannot hear.” Isaiah was trying to make the same point that God was making to Moses in our verses for today. God does have a mighty hand. That hand is constantly at work to fulfill God’s will. As we think of God’s mighty hand, I think there are a couple of things we ought to meditate on. First, if God’s mighty hand is constantly at work, we should constantly be certain which side of that hand we are on. God always stretches out that hand to strike against those who are opposed to His kingdom and to provide grace and protection for those in His kingdom. We need to make sure that we are on the grace side of that mighty hand.

By the way, has God’s mighty hand moved for you lately? Do you, like the people in Isaiah’s time, have doubts about whether God can do anything about your current situation? Look at the cross and leave all your doubts behind. God’s mighty hand was swung with grace toward all humanity, as His hand of wrath swung toward His Son, our Savior, Jesus. We stand redeemed, forgiven and free from the Devil and death because Jesus conquered both through His death and resurrection. One last thought: It is good to know that the end is going to be good. Moses was told that the Egyptians would let the people of Israel go, once His mighty hand had done its work. We know our end, too. As we live through the struggles of this life, we know that we are heaven-bound. We already know that we are victorious.

It’s great to know that when God’s mighty hand works, it always completes its task to judge and to redeem.

Peace!
