10/5/23 Daily Devotion – When they heard that God was concerned about them, they did what?

“Moses and Aaron brought together all the elders of the Israelites, and Aaron told them everything the Lord had said to Moses. He also performed the signs before the people, and they believed. And when they heard that the Lord was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped.” — Exodus 4:30-31 (NIV84)

Moses met his brother out in the desert and shared with him everything the Lord had said to Him through the burning bush on God’s holy mountain. As they returned to Egypt, they went to the elders of the people to share with them God’s plan for their deliverance. Moses and Aaron shared the plan and Moses showed them the signs that God showed him on Mt. Sinai. As the message spread through the camp of the Israelites, and the people discovered that God had compassion for them, they bowed down and worshiped Him. They realized that the God of their forefathers was not just mythological, but very real. God saw their suffering and heard their cries for help.

What else could they do when they finally realized that God was in the center of their suffering, working His will to rescue and deliver them? From an “eyes of sight” perspective, they probably thought that God was a million miles away from what they were going through, and He was deaf to their cries. But not so! God saw and heard everything! The same is true for you and me. God isn’t absent from our suffering. Most often, that is when He is working the hardest to let us know that He is with us and is working to deliver us. God always promises to never forsake His people. Whether we are walking on mountaintops or the valley of the shadow of death, He promises to be with us. Jesus says to His disciples, “and I will be with you ALWAYS, even to the end of the world.”

It’s time that we close our eyes and see with the eyes of faith. We need to bow down and worship the God who chooses to be with us in our suffering so that He might comfort and deliver us.

Peace!
