04/17/22 Daily Devotion – What pleases God the most?

“This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testimony given in its proper time.” (1 Timothy 2:3–6, NIV84)

When we get to a passage in Scripture that begins, “This is good and pleases God our Savior,” we should pay close attention. We are being told that there is something that pleases God…something about us. What can it be? It is when we “come to the knowledge of the truth” and are saved. God’s declaration of absolute truth, at the end of the day, is about our salvation. He isn’t just trying to win a heady debate with mankind. He is trying to save mankind. In order to do so, He must provide a truth so absolute that sin and death cannot touch it. What might that truth be? That truth is that Jesus Christ is the only mediator for our sins. He is more than a mediator; He is the sacrifice and ransom for our souls.

God doesn’t get a thrill out of condemning the guilty. He gets a thrill from saving and redeeming the guilty. Do you know why He holds the topic of truth so sacred? It is because our lives are in the balance. We tend to picture God as a stubborn father unwilling to see anything from a different perspective. The fact is, there is no different perspective. God has found the way to save our souls, and the truth of that way needs to be protected at all cost. It is for our own good that truth is singular and secure in Jesus Christ. Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection is more than a proclamation of truth — it is an expression of the very heart of God.

Know for certain that today God is pleased that your salvation is secure in your knowledge of the truth (Jesus).

Peace!
