05/11/22 Daily Devotion – True hope lightens the load!

“but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” — Isaiah 40:31 (NIV84)

Here is one of the most popular verses in the Bible. What wonderful imagery is attached to this promise of biblical hope. Who wouldn’t trade their worry and fear for a hope that makes them feel that they are effortlessly soaring like an eagle? I certainly wouldn’t mind running and not growing tired and walking and not growing faint. Who are the benefactors of such wonderful blessings? Those who hope in the Lord. This promise is for all of us. As we stop trying to control what we have no control of, we relieve ourselves of undue stress, worry, and fear. The burdens that we too often place on ourselves can be released. No wonder Jesus says, “If the Son sets you free, you are free indeed” (John 8:36). Wouldn’t it be nice to have our souls lightened from the burdens that weigh us down? Wouldn’t it be nice to spiritually soar like an eagle?

Friends in Christ, let’s just do it! Let’s commit ourselves to only bearing what we can control. Let’s commit to putting into God’s hands what He is so graciously willing to take from us. Let’s give Him our fears about our health. Let’s give him our worries about the future. Let’s place back into His hands what only He knows and will ultimately deal with, through His divine providence. Most important, let’s give Him our guilt and shame. Jesus died on the cross bearing our guilt and shame. We do not have to bear it, too. We need to leave those things at the foot of the cross and, empowered  by the Holy Spirit, begin to soar on wings like eagles. Zechariah says, “Not by might or by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord of Host.”

Let’s do a little soaring today!

Peace!
