05/26/22 Daily Devotion – Hope Boldly — Jesus is the real deal!

“And if what was fading away came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts! Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away.” (2 Corinthians 3:11–13, NIV84)

Every time Moses came out of the tabernacle after visiting with God, his face glowed with a radiance that reflected the Lord’s glory. He would wear a veil to hide the radiance until it faded away, for the people reacted strangely to the sight. The glory that reflected off of Moses’ face was temporary. It did not last. In our verses today, Paul compares the temporary reflected glory of Moses to the permanent glory of Jesus Christ. Jesus’ glory is not a reflection of another’s glory, but it is His own. You see, Moses was not the source of the glory he reflected. In fact, he reflected the glory of Jesus. Peter, James and John were well-acquainted with Jesus’ glory. They got to see it firsthand on the Mount of Transfiguration. Jesus radiated His own glory. It was not temporary or fading but permanent and lasting. Paul is telling us that because our salvation is rooted in the work of Jesus, who is the source of His own glory, our hope can now be bold.

Do you have a bold hope today? We do not have to be like Moses who knew that the glory he reflected would eventually wear off. Jesus’ glory never wears off. It is everlasting. Our hope in Jesus is certain and true. We can be bold in our faith, and we can be bold proclaimers of our faith.  We have a hope that is different from that of every other religion in the world. Our Savior, Redeemer, and source of truth is God Himself. God became one of us so that He might relate to us and save us. It is His glory, and not a reflected one, that we hope in today. There is no reason we can’t be bold in every way when it comes to our hope in Jesus.

Today, let’s have a bold hope!

Peace!
