“Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire, clear as the sky itself. But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank.” (Exodus 24:9-11 NIV84)

Even though they were written thousands of years apart, Moses’ description of the Lord’s throne is quite similar to that of later prophets and John’s description in the book of Revelation. What intrigues me about this? Well, two things in particular. First, I am impressed with the continuity of the Holy Scriptures. No other book in the world is like it. Although written by many authors over many centuries, the Bible retains both historical and spiritual accuracy. Second, if men who have seen the throne of God over several centuries describe it the same, then maybe God doesn’t change. And if God doesn’t change, then He is eternally a God of love, grace, compassion and hope.

These truths help to gird up my faith. You see, our faith is not blind. It holds to objective truths and realities. These truths about the kingdom of God are no different. They are as real as the screen you are looking at to see this devotion. I find it wonderfully encouraging to have my faith supported and held up by objective truth and history. Know today, and every day, that God’s truth and His kingdom are unchanging.
