“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. ” (John 8:36, NIV)
Mankind hasn’t known true freedom since before the Fall. An act that they thought would bring them absolute freedom, actually brought Adam and Eve bondage. Adam and Eve’s sinful act echoes through history as it enslaves each of our lives. The effects are not just spiritual. Each of us can tell stories of how sin has affected our self-image and personal relationships. The world has offered thousands of approaches to solving our human dilemma, but none have been successful. The main reason for their failure is that they are rooted in our attempts to make things right; and we just can’t. There is no special worship practice, meditation, or sacrificial practice that can bridge the gap between bondage and freedom.
But Jesus can. He did! He bridged the gap and won our freedom by dying on the cross and bearing all that binds us. He took it all upon himself. Paul says, “God made Him who had no sin to be sin on our behalf; that through Him we might become the righteousness of God.” When Jesus spoke the word, “Tetelestai!”, everything changed. He crushed the Devil’s head and truly set us free from his enslaving grasp. As believers in Jesus Christ, we are completely cleansed and set free by Jesus’ blood.
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
Live in the eternal freedom you have in Jesus, God’s Son.
Peace!
