02/22/23 Daily Devotion – Make up your mind!

“But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.” (Luke 21:14–15, NIV84)

We all remember the verse that tells us not to worry about what we are going to say on the day we are put on the spot because the Holy Spirit will be there to give us the words to speak. But how many of us remember the verse for today saying the same thing, but from the mouth of Jesus? Without any qualification, Jesus declares Himself to be equal with God, the Holy Spirit, by saying that He (Jesus) will give us “the words and wisdom” to share with our adversaries. How comforting to know that God is with us at all times. Other religions of the world see God as far away and unapproachable. Christianity sees God intimately connected to His followers.

But the real point I would like to make about this text is Jesus’ actual plea in the verses we are looking at today. Jesus said, “Make up your mind not to worry.” He is pleading with us to make a decision to trust Him. What Jesus does and teaches may all sound well and good. The question is, are we going to listen, believe and live like it is all true? To that question, Jesus is telling us to make up our mind to trust Him completely. As He promises, He will be with us with words and wisdom so that we might endure the moments of trial and properly defend our faith. But listen, Jesus is not just saying He will be there in your time of need. He is also saying He will be with you ALL the time. He never leaves us or forsakes us.

Know today, and every day, that Jesus (the Lord) is with you!

Peace!
